Harold H. Hines Jr. Professor of Medicine at Yale University, Founder and Director of the Yale Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE)

Harlan Krumholz is a cardiologist, educator, and scientist at Yale University and Yale New Haven Hospital. He is the Harold H. Hines, Jr. Professor of Medicine and the founder and Director of the Yale Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE), one of the most prominent research groups working to improve health and health care.

Dr. Krumholz pioneered strategies to measure and improve healthcare quality, outcomes, and health equity; promote open science and transform research processes; support patient empowerment; and apply digital technologies and computational approaches to accelerate progress in clinical care and research. He has published more than 1600 scientific articles, has an h-index >250, and was named one of the top 100 most cited scientists.

Dr. Krumholz co-founded the Yale University Open Data Access (YODA) Project, designed to increase access to clinical research data and promote their use to generate new knowledge.

For building transformative research platforms in China, he was awarded the Chinese Government’s Friendship Award, the highest award for foreign experts. He was the founding Editor of Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes and is the Editor-in-Chief of JACC (Journal of the American College of Cardiology).

He co-founded medRxiv, a non-profit preprint server for the medical and health sciences as well as Hugo Health, a patient-centric platform to give people agency over their digital health data. He also co-founded Refactor Health, ahealthcare AI-augmented data insight company and ENSIGHT-AI, a digital cardiovascular diagnostic company.

He was a founding Governor of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) and a member of the Advisory Committee to the Director of the National Institutes of Health. He is a Distinguished Scientist of the American Heart Associationand a member of the US National Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Krumholz graduated from Yale College, Harvard Medical School, and the Harvard School of Public Health.
