Dr. Dorothy Hitchmoth is a distinguished and award-winning professor, lecturer, and educator renowned for her extensive contributions to the field of eye care. With a remarkable career spanning 29 years as a retina fellow, she has authored numerous impactful scientific papers, editorials, and book chapters. Dr. Hitchmoth has passionately educated hundreds of medical and optometry residents at prestigious institutions such as Dartmouth and the New England College of Optometry. She has served prominent leadership roles at both state and national levels and is revered as a visionary by her colleagues.

Having dedicated 22 years to serving our nation's veterans at the Department of Veterans Affairs, she has excelled as a service chief and hospital executive. Currently, Dr. Hitchmoth operates a private practice in rural New Hampshire, strategically located in a critical access area. Her practice is renowned as an AMDF macular degeneration center of excellence, reflecting her commitment to driving innovation that fulfills her life mission to prevent vision loss.

In her pursuit of advancing ocular health, Dr. Hitchmoth serves as the President of the Ocular Wellness and Nutrition Society and was prominently featured in the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF) documentary "Losing Sight, Finding Hope.”  She also serves as Vice Chair on the NECO Board of Trustees and Chair of the Board for the New Hampshire Association for the Blind.

Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Hitchmoth is a sought-after business consultant for numerous corporations and serves as a pivotal influencer in public policy and legislation aimed at improving access to healthcare. She regularly engages with the public through social media and television appearances, has been featured in two documentary films, and is affectionately known as "America's Eye Doctor" by her peers--a testament to her exceptional impact and dedication in the field.
